Ladies and Gentlemen welcome to The Ritz Village
I would like to extend a special welcome to our new minister of economic affairs Mrs MacWilliam and to the United States Consul Mr. Greenberg.
Welcome!
About 15 years ago, round about this time, I remember very clearly, I just came back from the notary where this property had been delivered to me.
And there is a photo of me, standing in the middle of the compound with one hand to my head, and one can clearly see what I was thinking:
"Oh my God what have I done!"
All buildings were in shambles, there was rubble and dirt everywhere and the chollers were having a ball plundering the place.
But then I got myself together, and started renovating, little by little, step by step one building at the time.
The Ritz started with offices and Dutch Interns as tenants.
Then there was a period of a an American university
But the true calling of the Ritz came 8 years ago when we started the Boutique hotel.
Today we have renovated 14 buildings and have 110 hotel rooms and the place feels like a Village.
We have been very fortunate with many guests from all over the world, but we are specially blessed with thousands of guests who come back to The Ritz year after year and for whom The Ritz has become a second home.
Today we celebrate the expansion of The Ritz, called The Ritz Residence. Forty one bedroom apartments which we will sell and take back into a rental pool to join the hotel.
When we announced the apartments to our Ritz guests we were overwhelmed with interest and today after only one week we have already sold 11 apartments.
Besides the success for The Ritz, this means that the market for tourist accommodation on Curacao is hot and that people have a positive view on the inner city developments.
I would like to thank you for being here and sharing this moment with me, and special thanks to my wife Christine who has been instrumental in the development of The Ritz and to Mr. Fazl our GM who is the best we have ever had.
We do not have a ground breaking ceremony tonight, but I would like to invite the minister to jointly cut the cake with me.
Thank you!
